Lloyd Cole. Mr. Malcontent Himself: whether you prefer the 80s Lloyd Cole & the Commotions, Lloyd’s solo career, The Negatives, or the amazingly good stuff that he’s doing today as a truly autonomous Independent Artist, you can find out all about this guy, and his music at his very cool website: Lloyd Cole dot Com. You can also find Lloyd’s music from his solo-career at Last.FM, and there’s also a separate listing for Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, which is a definite blast from the past.
Old School Freight Train
We’ve just discovered these guys, and maybe they’ll be around for a while. Looks like they’ve recently released a new CD, titled Six Years. Check out their website. Their cover of Blondies’ Heart of Glass is simply incredible. You can also find these guys on Last.FM.
Grant Lee Buffalo
One of the greatest bands of all frickin’ time. Too bad they broke up. The lead singer, Grant Lee Philips is still going strong. You can also find Grant Lee Philip’s music at Yep Roc , an Indie Label that also handles Robin Hitchcock, Nick Lowe, and The Reverend Horton Heat, amongst other really cool acts worth looking into if you don’t already know who they are and own all their CDs. You can also find Grant Lee Buffalo at Last.FM. Just in case.
16 Horsepower
Another incredible band that is no longer together, but their music still kicks major buttage. Check out their video for Black Soul Choir: Here, or Here at Youtube. They are still amazing. The lead singer now travels around with a new band Woven Hand, which sounds promising, especially the track “Kingdom of Ice.”
